The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) is Ontario’s
first laptop-based university. Created in 2002 by an Act of the Ontario
legislature, it is a publicly funded university situated in Oshawa,
one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, and located less than
an hour east of Toronto. In September 2003, the university welcomed
its first class of students. Designed to meet the needs of students
of the twenty-first century, UOIT has combined the academic excellence
of a traditional university with career-focused learning and preparation
